07 March 2014 - In support of International Women’s Day (IWD) and to promote gender and development, the Philippine Embassy supported the UN Women National Committee Australia fund raising initiative, with its personnel donning purple ribbons on 7 March 2014 to mark IWD.
Embassy personnel also distributed International Women’s Day purple ribbons to visitors and consular clients of the Embassy to raise awareness of the event and the situation of women. According to the UN Women National Committee Australia, 70% of the world’s poor are women.
“International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 across the world. IWD is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women. It serves as an occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.” (culled from the UN National Committee Australia website)
